Work party no.3 was held last Saturday July 10th and our new FoDF banner was presented to the team by Wendy.
A total of ten volunteers arrived along with a quantity of gardening equipment items donated by a local resident. The items consisted of a spade, a hoe, two tenon saws, a pair of extendable loppers and two pairs of shears, all of which are very gratefully received to bolster our groups equipment store.
The four signs reminding dog owners to please clear up after their pets were finally fitted around the site to redundant steel golfing signs which will be repainted on a later work party. Since WP no. 2 there has been significant grass growth around the kiosk area so one volunteer elected to mow the area, a task that will require more frequent attention once the cafe situation is concluded. There are presently ongoing discussions with East Suffolk Council to resolve issues surrounding the toilet facilities within the building.
The major project of the day was to commence the reclamation of the fencing on the north side of the Corton road entrance. Over the years it has been completely covered with ivy and other vegetation and requires a fair bit of TLC to make it presentable again. It was discovered that it has sustained some damage from adjacent trees but appears to be repairable and further work to finish clearing the area will be carried out during the next WP.
Final job of the day was to clear the entrances to the site from the car park which had become overgrown with nettles and brambles.
Please note that we are planning to hold the next WP on a midweek morning around the end of this month and will confirm shortly.
